Hildo Krop

One of Amsterdam’s most renowned sculptors, Hildo Krop, originally came from Steenwijk. That is why a museum dedicated to his work is being opened on Kalverstraat in Steenwijk.

I was asked to create a large mural measuring 9.5 by 5 meters for the entrance of the (future) museum. It is a tremendous honor and especially meaningful to me, as I also grew up in Steenwijk and later developed my career in Amsterdam as well.

With the design, I wanted to paint a visual narrative of his life. I thought it would be exciting to incorporate existing works by Hildo Krop and reinterpret them in my own style. In this way, Hildo Krop’s work is honored on the wall while at the same time telling the story of his life.
